0.00001 food miles. We are proud to be a little bit different. Green Cow menus showcase the food that is produced and foraged from the land around us. Throughout the seasons, the chefs forage for wild garlic, hedgerow berries, damsons, plums, apples, pears, puff balls, elderflower and more...

The health benefits of a countryside escape

Amongst its stunning, picturesque views and abundant nature, the countryside offers significant mental and physical health benefits, making it the ideal place to escape from everyday life. At Crumplebury, we’re fortunate to be nestled within the Worcestershire countryside, surrounded by fresh produce, foliage, greenery and cattle.

Less air pollution

The further away you move from the city and suburbs, the closer you become to clean, pollution-free air. Polluted air has become a hot topic of conversation recently, highlighting its risk to our health. Trees and plants are known for their ability to absorb harmful toxins and chemicals – and this, combined with lower exposure to vehicle emissions, provides the body with opportunities to detoxify.

Improves mental health

As humans, we’re biologically and instinctively drawn towards nature. When we’re exposed to sights, sounds and smells that tap into our natural senses, our brain activity is regulated and we are therefore at a lower risk of developing anxiety disorders and stress. Feelings of boosted relaxation and happiness are commonly associated with being exposed to nature; so, if you’re embarking on a trip to the countryside, be sure to spend as much time as you can outdoors.

Organic and locally sourced produce

The countryside is not only home to nature’s most treasured livestock; much of the fresh ingredients consumed are grown by local farmers and supplied in abundance to nearby businesses. Little air miles are involved in the transportation of these ingredients, ultimately improving environmental conditions. Highly nutritious and free of harmful pesticides, organic produce is also sourced and consumed locally.

Life is slower

By contrast to the fast-paced city life, life seems to slow down in the countryside. The stunning views and peaceful atmosphere encourages you to become more mindful, and focus on your connection with your surroundings. Rather than rushing from here to there, grabbing fast food on-the-go and having multiple ideas racing around in your head, country life encourages you to cook with nutritious ingredients that are grown locally, and the vast array of secluded, picturesque walking routes prompt walkers to take it slow and absorb their surroundings.

Connection to nature

When we spend time in nature, we can’t help but stop and notice the beauty of the surrounds and the refreshing smells. It instils a sense of peace and tranquillity that you simply don’t experience in the city, and really prompts you to appreciate the world we live in. We have an undeniable connection with nature, and this is proven by the multitude of health benefits that it provides us with – in addition to the motivation it gives us to live a healthier lifestyle.

If you’re someone who lives in a busy city and each day feels like a blur, take some time out to treat your mind and body to a countryside escape. At Crumplebury, we love welcoming guests from all walks of life, providing those who originate from busy surroundings with a truly relaxing country experience – from fresh, locally prepared food to livestock that’s reared and nurtured with love and care.
